At Augnito, we believe that the future of healthcare lies at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and human-centric care. As part of our commitment to transforming global healthcare through innovative Voice AI solutions, we are proud to introduce the Augnito Clinician Advisory Council (CAC). This multidisciplinary panel of thought leaders is integral to our mission, offering invaluable insights that shape the development and deployment of our products.

In this three-part blog series, we shine a spotlight on the visionaries behind the CAC—Dr. Vibha Jain, Dr. Arif Khan, and Ramy Khalil, MD. Each post will delve into their expertise, experiences, and perspectives on the evolving landscape of healthcare technology.

This series concludes with Ramy Khalil, MD an accomplished internal medicine physician whose career spans continents and specialties. With a passion for advancing primary care through technology and system redesign, Dr. Khalil’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of innovation and patient-centered care.

Spotlight on Dr. Khalil: Redefining Primary Care Through Technology & Innovation

Dr. Ramy Khalil is an international internal medicine physician with extensive clinical expertise and a keen focus on digital innovation in healthcare. His career is defined by a commitment to improving healthcare outcomes through the integration of cutting-edge technology with patient-centered care.

Dr. Khalil’s work spans optimizing clinical workflows, leveraging data-driven insights for strategic decision-making, and championing next-generation medical solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and collaboration. As the co-founder of Eyes To See, an executive education company dedicated to transforming healthcare leadership through system thinking, his influence extends beyond clinical practice into shaping the future of organizational leadership in medicine.

In this interview, Dr. Khalil shares his perspectives on how technology can enhance primary care relationships, address universal healthcare challenges, and revolutionize global healthcare accessibility through voice AI.

1. You’ve championed primary care across different healthcare systems globally. How do you see technology enhancing the doctor-patient relationship in primary care settings?

“The foundation of primary care is human connection, and technology should strengthen—not replace—that bond. When done right, technology can extend the relationship beyond the walls of the clinic, making care more accessible and seamless. Tools like patient portals and telehealth bring convenience and continuity, but they also must prioritize simplicity. Patients shouldn’t feel overwhelmed, and doctors shouldn’t feel like data entry clerks.

What excites me most is any technology that supports meaningful conversations—tools that simplify charting, provide decision-making insights in real time, or help patients visualize their health trends. At its best, technology becomes invisible, allowing us to focus fully on the human connection at the heart of primary care.”

2. Having practiced medicine across different continents, what universal healthcare challenges have you observed that technology could help address?

“One of the biggest challenges I’ve observed practicing across the globe is a universal, inefficient reliance on outdated fee-for-service payment models, especially in preventive care and outpatient medicine. This model incentivizes volume over value, focusing on sick care rather than true prevention. It’s a system where doctors are paid for doing more, not necessarily for doing better, which often leads to fragmented and reactive care.

Technology can help us transition away from these outdated systems by enabling models that emphasize value and outcomes. Imagine tools that track longitudinal health improvements or AI systems that identify high-risk patients for targeted interventions—these technologies align perfectly with subscription-based or capitated care models.

When organizations reduce the role of third-party payment systems and focus on direct relationships between patients and their primary care providers, everyone benefits. Patients get better, more personalized care, and doctors are freed from the treadmill of visit quotas and administrative burden. Technology can’t fix everything, but it can absolutely help us build systems that prioritize trust, prevention, and longitudinal health.”

3. As a member of Augnito’s Clinician Advisory Council, what role do you see voice AI playing in making healthcare more accessible and efficient globally?

“Voice AI has the potential to solve one of the biggest frustrations in healthcare: documentation. As a physician, I’ve spent countless hours typing or clicking through charts—time I’d rather spend with patients. Tools like Augnito let me focus on what matters by allowing documentation to happen naturally as we speak.

Globally, Voice AI can go even further. It can bridge language barriers, enabling doctors and patients to communicate more easily. It can adapt to different care settings, from busy urban hospitals to remote clinics with limited resources. Good technology in healthcare is technology that gives back time to its users. When given more time, providers everywhere will use that time to do what they do best: care for and connect with people.

Voice AI is about bringing healthcare back to its human roots by putting patients and their stories at the center of care.”
